KEARNEY – One of the top John Denver tribute artists is joining the Kearney Symphony Orchestra on stage.
“The Music of John Denver with Jim Curry” will perform at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 24 at the University of Nebraska at Kearney Recital Hall.
Curry, who’s voice was heard in the CBS-TV movie “Take Me Home: The John Denver Story,” has performed Denver’s music in sold out shows across the country and has emerged as today’s top performer of Denver’s vast legacy of hits.
Curry’s groundbreaking tribute 10 years ago was the first full-length John Denver tribute concert to come to Las Vegas, and it continues to sell out shows.

Curry does not do an impersonation of Denver; his performance is a true tribute to the music in his own natural voice.
Curry and his band will perform with the Kearney Symphony Orchestra using the original orchestrations written for John Denver by Grammy award-winning composer Lee Holdridge, whose symphony arrangements became the trademark sound of many of Denver’s multi-platinum radio hits in the 70s and 80s.
Joining Curry on stage is his wife, Anne; flautist Diane Ireland; and John Sommers, who wrote “Thank God I’m A Country Boy,” which Denver recorded and turned into a No. 1 hit in 1975 on both the country and pop charts.
Another concert highlight will be Hsuan (Kevin) Cheng’s performance of Tchaikovsky’s “Piano Concerto #2.” Cheng of Hastings won the opportunity to perform with KSO as the winner of the 2014 Kearney Symphony Orchestra Young Artist Competition.
A UNK music and biology major, he is a student of Nathan Buckner, UNK professor of music. Previously, he studied with Chin-Hua Xu and Jonathan Sokasits, a member of the piano faculty at Hastings College.
