The women of the Delta Xi chapter of Alpha Phi, a sorority at the University of Nebraska at Kearney, raised $3,000 earlier this week at their first Red Dress Poker Tournament philanthropic event.
The money raised will be donated to the Alpha Phi Foundation, which supports education in women’s cardiac health, leadership development and philanthropy among its members. The donations will also supplement undergraduate and graduate scholarships for Alpha Phi members across the United States and Canada.

he sorority recruited more than 180 poker players from UNK and the general public to participate in the event, and gave away prizes throughout the evening. Prizes included an iPod Nano, a trip to Las Vegas for two, two Husker tickets and other gift baskets.
Cami Wacker, UNK associate director of student development and retention programs, said, “Every member was involved in making this event a success for participants as well as the Alpha Phi Foundation.”
