KentEstesKEARNEY – The 10th annual Kent Estes Memorial Golf Tournament is scheduled for Saturday, April 26, at Kearney Country Club.

The format for the golf tournament is a 4-person scramble with a two-putt max on every hole. The entry fee for the tournament is per person or 0 per team. Lunch will be provided. The tournament raises money for scholarships at the University of Nebraska at Kearney and is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.

All proceeds go to the Kent Estes Memorial Fund. The Estes family awards three annual scholarships — one to a student athlete, one to a student in the counseling and school psychology department, and one to an active member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity.

Kent Estes began teaching in 1975 at Kearney State College and served as chair for the counseling and school psychology department for more than 30 years. Estes battled leukemia throughout the later part of his life and died in 2005.

His sons – Erik, Aaron and Luke – attended UNK and were members of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity.

UNK’s chapter of Pi Kappa Alpha has hosted the golf tournament in his memory since 2005, with all of the proceeds going to the Kent Estes Memorial Fund.
