UNK celebrated Hispanic culture during Monday’s Mariachi Day with a concert in the Fine Arts Recital Hall. The event featured the award-winning Mariachi Zapata, an Omaha-based group with more than 30 years of performing experience. Known for its lively, authentic sound and powerful stage presence, Mariachi Zapata has been nominated multiple times for the Omaha Entertainment and Arts Awards, taking home the Best World Music honor in 2018. The band was joined by Grupo Folklorico Belleza de Nuestra Tierra, whose colorful costumes and traditional dance brought the rich traditions of Mexico to life. The event gave students and community members an opportunity to engage with Hispanic heritage through music, dance and celebration.
