KEARNEY – One round of voting wasn’t enough to determine the University of Nebraska at Kearney’s next student body president and vice president.

Because none of the candidates received more than 50% of the total votes, as required in the student government bylaws, a runoff election will be conducted next week.

The running mates with the top two totals – Emily Saadi and Zach Zavodny (432 votes) and Aidan Weidner and Olivia Koenig (375 votes) – advance to the next round of voting, which will occur Wednesday, March 9, and Thursday, March 10, through UNK student email. The winning team will be announced the evening of March 10.

A total of 1,084 votes were cast in the presidential race. The third team, Landon Seibert and Jocelyn Rauert, received 277 votes.
