PAWS University collaborated with Crane River Theater Company and UNK Music, Theatre and Dance to teach students entering grades four through six about theater production.

During the four-week Performing Arts Academy, children designed, built and painted the set and props, and learned choreography, music and lines. They will showcase their work in a free production of “Willy Wonka Kids!,” scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Friday (July 2) at UNK’s Miriam Drake Theatre.

Crane River Theater Education Director Matthew Briggs said the 28 kids who will perform in the play were involved in every aspect of creating the show, too.

“There are many different roles in theater that you can accomplish and many different aspects of it, not just acting,” he said.
