KEARNEY – The University of Nebraska at Kearney has established an event approval committee to ensure safety guidelines are followed during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The six-member committee will review plans for all on-campus events with 25 or more attendees, as well as university-sponsored events hosted off campus with this number of people in attendance.
Events that require approval include:
- Concerts and performances
- Conferences
- Banquets and ceremonies
- Workshops
- Career fairs
- Orientations
- Intramural sports
- Recreational activities
- Special events that bring high school students to campus
- Events hosted on campus by outside groups
Event organizers must submit a plan to the approval committee no later than three weeks prior to the event date. The form – available here – covers topics such as face masks, sanitization, social distancing, venue layout, food, entertainment and transportation.
Organizers also must submit the standard room/table request form available here.
For events with 50 or more attendees, UNK’s approval committee is working with Two Rivers Public Health Department to ensure all requirements are met. Under the current directed health measure for the Two Rivers area, event attendance is limited to 50% of an indoor venue’s capacity and 75% of an outdoor facility’s capacity.
Regular classroom activities do not require approval from the UNK committee. The policy also doesn’t apply to on-campus meetings or informal activities with 25 or fewer people in attendance. However, participants are required to wear face masks and practice proper social distancing, with at least 6 feet between each person.
UNK students and employees are encouraged to meet remotely using Zoom or other technology whenever possible.
