KEARNEY – Three University of Nebraska at Kearney students were recently recognized for their musical talent.

Trey Switzer of Gretna, Grace Lueders of Blair and Joshua Wetovick of Fullerton were selected as winners of the 2019 Concerto/Aria Competition conducted Oct. 10 in UNK’s Fine Arts Recital Hall.

Each fall, student competitors perform for a jury of UNK music faculty during a public concert. Winners earn the privilege of performing the following semester with one of the large, instrumental ensembles at UNK.

Switzer will play the euphonium as a soloist on Gordon Jacob’s “Fantasia” during the UNK Wind Ensemble concert April 16.

Lueders and Wetovick will perform as soloists with Kearney Symphony Orchestra. Lueders will sing the aria “So angi’io la virtù magica” from Gaetano Donizetti’s opera “Don Pasquale” during a Feb. 25 concert, and Wetovick, a violinist, will perform the third movement of Felix Mendelssohn’s “Violin Concerto in E minor, Op. 64” during an April 28 concert.

The Concerto/Aria Competition recognizes and celebrates outstanding student performers at UNK while providing opportunities for professional growth.
