A busy stretch of street near the University of Nebraska at Kearney campus will be closed Monday (June 24) to allow workers to complete an asphalt milling project.
Ninth Avenue will be closed from 25th Street to 28th Street beginning at 7 a.m., with work expected to be completed by 5 p.m. and the street reopened to traffic.
The area under repair is a three-block stretch on the east edge of campus from Warner Hall north to an area near the Nebraskan Student Union and Centennial Towers East and Centennial Towers West residence halls.
The asphalt work is being done by the City of Kearney Public Works Department and Gary Smith Construction Company. Citizens, UNK students, employees and visitors are urged to use caution in the work zone.
Another street project near UNK will also impact traffic near campus.
On Tuesday (June 25), Fifth Avenue will be closed from 25th Street north to 30th Street from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. The area includes streets four blocks east of UNK.
