PHOTO GALLERY: Community, UNK come together to Celebrate Kearney

It was one heck of a community celebration.
The University of Nebraska at Kearney and Kearney Area Chamber of Commerce hosted Celebrate Kearney: Party at the Village on Friday at UNK’s University Village development. The free event, which capped the chamber’s Kearney Love Local Week activities, gave UNK students a chance to unwind before finals week while strengthening the relationship between the university and community and showcasing the development taking shape along U.S. Highway 30.
The festivities included live music, food trucks, a “Chamber Main Street” featuring local businesses, beer garden, family fun zone with games and a zip line and a free barbecue for UNK students.
University Village is a public-private development that includes a UNK housing complex called Village Flats that opened in July 2018 and an early childhood education center opening this summer. It is planned as a pedestrian-oriented village featuring residential, retail, academic, service, recreation and community engagement uses.
