KEARNEY – Nearly 100 employers will be on hand Feb. 7 during a Career and Graduate School Fair at the University of Nebraska at Kearney.
The event, scheduled for 12:30-3:30 p.m. in the Health and Sports Center, is open to all UNK students and the public. Preregistration isn’t required.
“This is the largest career fair we have on campus,” said John Gibbs, an academic adviser with UNK Academic and Career Services, which organizes the biannual event showcasing internship and job opportunities in a variety of fields.
“Whether you’re a communication major or marketing and management, this career fair typically has employers who are looking to talk to students,” Gibbs said.
The lineup includes both large and small businesses with full- and part-time positions in industries such as agriculture, construction, finance, health care, technology, industrial distribution, law enforcement, social services, manufacturing and retail sales. Nonprofit organizations and graduate school opportunities at several institutions, including UNK, the University of Nebraska at Omaha and University of Nebraska-Lincoln, are also featured.
“Students from just about any academic program can come and find a good fit,” said Aaron Estes, associate director of Academic and Career Services.
The Career and Graduate School Fair, which is also offered during the fall semester, continues to grow each year as employers from across the region look to UNK to fill positions.
“There are lots of employers who have had success with students they’ve hired from here,” Estes said.
In addition to employment opportunities, the event gives younger students a chance to network with business representatives, explore various career paths and develop stronger interview skills.
“I think all UNK students should attend,” Gibbs said.
