KEARNEY – The Antelope Bookstore at the University of Nebraska at Kearney will be temporarily relocated to accommodate renovation work at the Nebraskan Student Union.

The bookstore, located on the east end of the student union, is moving later this month to a strip mall space at 1420 W. 24th St., just south of the Health and Sports Center along U.S. Highway 30.

The transition begins Oct. 15, with the bookstore remaining open inside the student union that week. The bookstore will be closed Oct. 22-27 so inventory, furniture and other items can be moved to the temporary location, a leased space that formerly housed The College Store.

On Oct. 29, the Antelope Bookstore will reopen at the Highway 30 location with regular operating hours – 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays.

Although the temporary location is smaller, Antelope Bookstore manager Len Fangmeyer said all of the textbooks, UNK apparel, academic and office supplies and other items currently offered will remain available at that site.

“We’ll still be a full-service bookstore,” Fangmeyer said.

UNK apparel is also available at Ron and Carol Cope Stadium during home football games and inside the Health and Sports Center during Loper athletic events held there.

The Antelope Bookstore is tentatively scheduled to move back into the student union in March.

In the meantime, that space will undergo a transformation as part of the ongoing union renovation project. Bookstore improvements include new flooring, LED lighting and paint, as well as work to resolve plumbing issues.

“I’m excited that it’s going to have the same look as the other union upgrades,” Fangmeyer said.

The project will not impact Boost Market, which is located near the bookstore.
