KEARNEY – The Alpha Xi Delta sorority at the University of Nebraska at Kearney is hosting the Step it Up for Autism Speaks 5K run/walk Saturday (April 22).

The run/walk begins at 10 a.m. at the Great Platte River Road Archway Monument at 3060 E. 1st St.

Registration begins at 9 a.m. The cost is $10 before the event or $15 the day of the race.

Proceeds from the run/walk go to Autism Speaks. Autism Speaks works to promote solutions for the needs of individuals with autism and their families through advocacy and support, increasing understanding and acceptance of autism spectrum disorder and advancing research into causes and better interventions for autism spectrum disorder.

Alpha Xi Delta is a philanthropic partner with Autism Speaks, and chapters across the country have raised over $5 million for the organization.

There will be face painting, music and refreshments at the event. Prizes will be given to first-, second- and third-place finishers. Prizes will also be given to groups of runners for most spirited and most blue.
