Biz Kidz to create business, sell goods at Kearney Hy-Vee

KEARNEY – The public will have a chance to purchase items from young entrepreneurs taking part in Biz Kidz Camp: Kearney, hosted by University of Nebraska at Kearney Center for Rural Research and Development.

Following four days of learning how to create and maintain a business, Biz Kidz Camp participants will sell their goods from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday (Aug. 5) at Kearney Hy-Vee, 5212 Third Ave.

Structured around the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s 4-H EntrepreneurShip Investigation Camp Guide, the event includes case studies, activities and technology to help develop entrepreneurial skills for youth ages 10-14.

Janita Pavelka, an award-winning youth entrepreneurship educator from Holdrege, is leading the classes. Other guest speakers will include: Vaughn Duncan, Farmers & Merchants Bank; Sherri Harms, UNK professor of Computer Science and Information Technology; Travis Hollman, Hollman Media; Bruce Lear, Black Oak Investments; and Lizzie Wheatly, Hilltop Mall.

Biz Kidz Camp: Kearney is in its fifth year. In addition to the expo at Hy-Vee, participants have additional selling opportunities at Kearney’s 24th Street Night Market and the upcoming Nebraska State Fair.
