KEARNEY – World-renowned geneticist Dr. Shoukhrat Mitalipov will speak at the Fourth annual Doug Lund DNA Day at the University of Nebraska at Kearney.
DNA Day takes place at 5 p.m. Thursday (April 21) in Copeland Hall room 142.
Mitalipov will present “Applications of Nuclear Transfer in Regenerative and Reproductive Medicine.”
Mitalipov is director of the Center for Embryonic Stem Cell and Gene Therapy and senior scientist in the Division of Reproductive and Developmental Sciences for the Oregon National Primate Research Center at Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, Ore.
He is a pioneer of the technique to produce rejection-proof, genetically matched embryonic human stem cells from skin cells using somatic cell nuclear transfer.
He also investigates novel gene therapy approaches designed to prevent transmission of gene defects from parents to their children.
The lecture is free and open to the public.
