Danielson, Thomas honored as outstanding health, physical ed students

KEARNEY – Two University of Nebraska at Kearney students were recently named National Majors of the Year by the Society of Health and Physical Educators – SHAPE America.

Leah Danielson of Gibbon and Matt Thomas of Dunning, both health and physical education majors, were recognized April 7 during the Major of the Year Awards Ceremony in Minneapolis, Minn.

“Matt and Leah are dedicated Health and Physical Education majors who have not only exceeded in the classroom, but have also taken an active role on campus through undergraduate research work, Physical Education Major Club leadership, and mentoring Health and Physical Education freshman and sophomore students,” said Megan Adkins, associate professor of kinesiology and sport sciences.

“The UNK Health and Physical Education faculty are proud of these students for taking an active role in their journey to be quality educators.”

The award celebrates outstanding undergraduate students in the health, physical education, recreation and dance professions who are nominated by a faculty adviser or professor.
