The Big Event set for April 2; Job sites, volunteers needed

Big-Event-Flyer-2-webKEARNEY – The Big Event will bring hundreds of students, faculty and staff from the University of Nebraska at Kearney together to volunteer across the community April 2.

The Big Event is the largest, one-day, student-run service project in the nation. The event started at Texas A&M in 1982 and aims to give back to communities through one day of service.

It’s a way for students from campuses across the country to say “thank you” to residents in their local communities. For 11 years, UNK students have participated in the annual event to show their appreciation for Kearney by completing service projects.

Last year, more than 800 students participated in The Big Event at over 40 job sites. Service projects include anything from painting a fence and doing yard work to window washing and cleaning. The service projects benefit organizations, churches and individuals in the Kearney area.
