Mortar Board accepting applications for new members in 2015-16

The Xi Phi chapter of Mortar Board at the University of Nebraska Kearney is accepting applications for new members for the 2015-16 academic year.

Mortar Board is a national honor society that recognizes college seniors for their achievements in scholarship, leadership and service. The Xi Phi Chapter of Mortar Board was chartered at UNK in 1988 and is one of 230 chapters nationwide.

UNK’s chapter has a long history of excellence.

In August, the chapter received the Ruth Weimer Mount Chapter Excellence Award at the national conference in Atlanta, which recognizes the top Mortar Board chapter in the country.

The UNK chapter also has been given the prestigious Golden Torch Award 15 of the past 16 years, as well as numerous Project Excellence awards.

Projects that Mortar Board has been involved with in the past year include: Last Lecture Series, True Blue Game Days, Fuel Around the Fountain, Reading is Leading, Freshman & Sophomore Recognition Event, Faculty Appreciation Dinner, Campus Clean-Up, Habitat for Humanity, A Million Thanks Letter Writing Campaign to Veterans and Active Duty Military, and Adopt-a-Family.
