Gottula named director of news, internal communications at UNK

KEARNEY – Todd Gottula is the new director of news and internal communications at the University of Nebraska at Kearney.

Gottula writes and edits news releases, oversees online news content and is the primary media contact for the university. He is responsible for developing a new electronic newsletter, internal communications and sharing story ideas with local, regional and national media. He started at UNK on July 1.

His other duties include managing the department’s writing team and collaborating with campus personnel on integrated and strategic university communications.

“Todd brings us considerable experience in media and communications,” said Kelly Bartling, UNK’s assistant vice chancellor for communications and community relations. “He is a strategic thinker and tactician in all areas of PR and communication.

“His presence will enhance our ability to forge close relationships with media and deliver informative and timely news and information to faculty, staff, students and alumni.”

A veteran newspaper reporter and public relations manager, Gottula worked previously as vice president and communications director for the Viaero Event Center and Tri-City Storm hockey team in Kearney.

His career path includes 14 years as a reporter and editor at the Kearney Hub newspaper, where he won numerous writing and photography awards.
