The Chinese Student Scholarship Association (CSSA) at the University of Nebraska at Kearney is hosting the Sixth Annual Chinese Spring Festival on Saturday, Feb. 9.

“We will serve free Chinese food and drinks as well as perform traditional Chinese music and dances,” said Mo Zhu of Chengde, China. “Our performers are students who come from all over China.” The festival, which is free and open to the public, will take place in Nebraskan Student Union Ponderosa Room at 5:45 p.m.

According to Zhu, the Chinese Spring Festival, also known as the Chinese New Year celebration, is the most important of the traditional Chinese holidays. This holiday is seen as a family event, and a time for celebration of a time of reunion and appreciation.

“The members of CSSA find this a good opportunity to celebrate this holiday, and teach and help others at UNK, and in the Kearney community, experience the Chinese culture,” Zhu said.
