MEN’S AND WOMEN’S CHORAL CONCERT SET FOR SUNDAY, APRIL 22, AT UNK

The spring men’s and women’s choral concert “One World, Many Voices” will be held on Sunday, April 22, at the University of Nebraska at Kearney.

The concert, which will begin at 5 p.m. in the UNK Fine Arts Recital Hall, is free and open to the public. Dr. David Bauer, UNK professor of music and performing arts, will lead the choirs.

The University Men’s Choir, University Women’s Choir, Vocal Collegium and Choraleers will perform selections from around the world.

During the University Men’s Choir portion of the concert, Thomas Augustin of Crofton, Daniel Carlson of Grand Islandand Lee Rushing of Marion, Ark. will be featured on “Songs of the Seven Seas: The Pirate Song” by Ray Stevens, and Daniel Gibbs of Kearney will be the featured vocalist in “Men in Tights” by Hummie Mann.

The University Women’s Choir will perform pieces including “Die Schwestern” by Johannes Brahms and “Follow me down to Carlow” by Percy Fletcher. Aaron Svoboda of Kearney will be featured on the bodhran in “Mouth Music” by Dolores Keane and John Faulkner.

In the Vocal Colleigum portion of the concert, Andrew Poinsette of Bellevue will be featured in “Fa Shu Ha,” Zaid Lamas of Bridgeport will be featured in “Mata Del Anima Sola,” and Jessica Ferguson of Lexington, Markie Sup of Albion and Dr. Ting-Lan Chen, UNK associate professor of music and performing arts, violin, will be featured in “Siuil a Riun.”

The UNK Choraleers will conclude the evening.

Dr. Chen, violin, and Dan Yu of Beijing, China, second pianist, will be featured in “The Nightingale.”

Nate Rockeof Lincoln will be featured in “Naiman Sharag” and Amaryah Fritz of Hildreth will sing in Pastoral Song.

Jordan Peterson of O’Neill, Matt Powell of Mitchell and Zach Thomas of Hastings are featured vocalists in “Tshotsholoza.”

Rachel Harvey of Scottsbluff and Danielle Jim of Grand Island will be featured in “La Villanella.”
