“Fencing Like the Franks,” presented by the Hastings Fencing Club, is scheduled for Saturday, April 28, at the Frank House on the University of Nebraska at Kearney West Campus.

The presentation, which is free and open to the public, will begin at 1:30 p.m. on the Frank House front lawn.

Dave Beins, head coach of the Hastings Fencing Club, along with club members will demonstrate their swordsmanship.

“My favorite part about fencing demonstrations is meeting new people and showing them something new,” Beins said.

The Hastings Fencing Club, the only fencing club in central Nebraska, was formed in 2007 with the goal of educating people interested in swordsmanship. According to Beins, some members have been fencing since childhood, while others are new to the sport.

The Frank House showcases antique sabers in its collection. George William Frank, who was a civil engineer and the Frank House architect, wore a saber as part of his military school uniform.

“Donations helped refurbish the master bed chamber area and will be put to good use as we begin the other planned improvement projects in the Frank House,” said KrisAnn Sullivan, director of the Frank House. “Saturday at the Frank House educational program volunteers help make the public aware of the needs of the house and the public responds.  Donations are always appreciated in support of the Frank House.”

Upcoming Saturday at the Frank House events include: May 5, “Flutes at the Frank House.”
