A recycling competition will be held on Thursday, April 19, at the University of Nebraska at Kearney in recognition of Earth Day, which is Sunday, April 22.

All of the trash from Men’s Hall and the Memorial Student Affairs Building (MSAB) will be moved to the fenced area between the two buildings. Honors Program students and other UNK student volunteers dressed in hazmat suits will sort through the waste from 4 – 5 p.m.

“We are going to empty all of the trash and the recycling out of the buildings onto big tarps, sort out what is trash and what is recyclable, and weight it to see who does the best job of recycling,” said Amy Rundstrom, assistant director of UNK Academic and Career Services.

The event is being coordinated by Dr. Marc Albrecht, associate professor of biology; Dr. Tony Earls, associate dean for Student Affairs and director of Student Life; Lee McQueen, UNK Facilities Management and Planning director; and Dr. Peter Longo, UNK professor of political science.
