UNK CAMPUS MOURNING LOSS OF STUDENT IN CAR/TRAIN COLLISION

The University of Nebraska at Kearney today is mourning the loss of a student who died in a car/train collision west of Kearney Wednesday night.

The student, 19-year-old Jimmy (J.R.) Barnett, was a freshman industrial distribution major and a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. He graduated from Garden County High School in 2011.

Dr. Joe Oravecz, UNK dean, Division of Student Affairs, said, “The campus is saddened today at the loss of our student, and we want to express our sympathy to his family and his friends.

“The death of a student affects the entire UNK community. Some of our students have already benefitted by our on-campus resources in Counseling & Health Care, as well as our friends in Campus Ministries,” he said.
