The Alpha Phi sorority at the University of Nebraska at Kearney is hosting the 7th annual Red Dress Poker Tournament on Thursday, Feb. 9, from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Health and Sports Center.

“All proceeds go the Alpha Phi Foundation, which supports women’s cardiac care,” said Shanna Hilger from David City, Alpha Phi director of philanthropy. “Not only does the money go to a great cause, but people are able to come play some poker and have a good time with some friends.

“Our event is open to the public and not only to the Kearney area, but individuals from other areas can also come play some poker and support an amazing cause,” Hilger said. Tickets may be purchased in advance for $12, or at the door for $15.

About $5,600 was raised last year and approximately 463 people attended the tournament. The top prizes this year are $200 in Southwest Airline airfare, $200 Ray Ban Sunglasses, a flat screen television, a kindle and cover, a meat package and Husker tickets. An IPad 2 will also be raffled off, according to Hilger.

A booth will be set up to sell tickets in the Nebraskan Student Union starting Thursday, Jan. 26, through Wednesday, Feb. 8.
