Dr. Valerie Cisler, chair and professor of music at the University of Nebraska at Kearney, will be the featured speaker at the Lincoln Music Teachers Association annual meeting and fund-raising campaign kick-off luncheon on Wednesday, Aug. 31, at the Governor’s Mansion.
Dr. Cisler’s topic will be “Music Mastery = Motivation,” a look at the impact of student mastery of practice and performance skills on motivation.

According to Jo Riecker-Karl, LMTA public relations chair, donors from LMTA as well as from the community will have an opportunity to become charter members of a new endowment society establishing a donor designated fund through the Lincoln Community Foundation. The fund will benefit the LMTA music outreach program.

She added that an anonymous donor has offered to match monetary donations up to $5,000 through December. The designated fund will be called the M.U.S.I.C. (Music for Underserved Interested Children) Endowment. Income from the endowment will be used to fund the LMTA music outreach program for the benefit of school-aged children who want to study music.

Riecker- Karl said, “LMTA believes that students who receive mentoring in the form of lessons will eventually become good citizens and philanthropists.”

LMTA and community members who wish to serve as charter members of the M.U.S.I.C. Endowment Society and participate in the official signing ceremony at the Governor’s Mansion must notify Jessica Freeman, LMTA treasurer, at Treasurer@LMTA.info. They will need to provide their name and the amount of pledge by Friday, Aug. 24. Checks will be collected at the luncheon and should be made out to Lincoln Community Foundation with a notation on the memo line “for LMTA designated fund.”

The cost of the 11:30 a.m. luncheon is $10 for reservations made before Aug. 26, and $20 for reservations made after that date. Luncheon reservations may be made at Treasurer@LMTA.info.
