UNK– A group of high school students from across Nebraska have spent the week singing and dancing at the High School Music Theater Camp in preparation for a 2 p.m. public performance Saturday (June 5).
“Broadway Bound,” which will be performed in the University of Nebraska at Kearney Fine Arts Recital Hall, is free, open to the public and appropriate for all ages, according to camp director Dr. Anne Foradori, a UNK music professor. The performance will include music from: Rodgers & Hammerstein, Stephen Schwartz, Cole Porter, Bock & Harnick, Stephen Sondheim, and new voices of musical theatre — Adam Gwon and Pasek & Paul.
This is the fourth summer that the UNK Department of Music and Performing Arts has held the camp. Students submit their auditions through DVD. This summer, nine students were accepted to the camp.
“We have been fortunate to have great submissions each year and so have accepted all applicants thus far,” Dr. Foradori said. Once the students are accepted, they have 10 days to start learning the music before camp begins. Students arrived at camp on May 30 and will attend through the final performance on June 5.
UNK faculty and students are involved in both the camp and the final production. Faculty involved includes: Dr. Foradori, Dr. Sharon Campbell and Dr. Andrew White. Guest choreographer Kamara Graves is a 2003 UNK graduate.
