More than 60 tuba and baritone players will perform in the annual Merry Tuba Christmas concert on Saturday, Dec. 5, at the University of Nebraska at Kearney Fine Arts Recital Hall.

The event, sponsored by the UNK Department of Music and Performing Arts, will begin at 11 a.m. The performance is free and open to the public.

Merry Tuba Christmas includes baritone and tuba players within a 100-mile radius from Kearney. The performers vary in age from 11 to 80-years-old. The performers will rehearse Saturday morning before the actual performance.

“Everyone’s favorite Christmas carols played in four-part harmony by baritones and tubas will be performed,” said Dr. Gary Davis, UNK Symphonic Band director. “To play at Merry Tuba Christmas and have 60 baritones and tubas is a sound that neither the performers nor the audience will ever forget.”

Free hot chocolate, coffee and cookies will be served after the performance.
