Kearney Symphony Orchestra director, 308.865.8618
UNK- The music of Bach, Tchaikovsky and classic holiday favorites are on the program when the Kearney Symphony Orchestra (KSO) presents “A KSO Christmas Carol” concert Tuesday, Dec. 9, at Merryman Performing Arts Center.
The University of Nebraska at Kearney ensemble concert begins at 7:30 p.m. General admission is $8 for the public and free for UNK students.
The concert will open with a Choral Prelude of “Waschet auf, ruft uns die Stiemme” by Johann Sebastian Bach. Other pieces on the program include Tchaikovsky’s “Sleeping Beauty Suite,” “Bring a Torch,” “Conventry Carol,” “The Bells of Christmas” and “Stille Nacht” (Silent Night).
The UNK Choraleers will also perform during the concert. Selections to be performed include “Gloria in Excelsis Deo,” “Dona Nobis Pachem” and “Ave Maria,” arranged by Dr. Crocker.
KSO will join the Choraleers on stage for a closing sing-along. Popular holiday favorites such as “Deck the Halls,” “Jingle Bells” and “Joy to the World” will be showcased.
Dr. Crocker will share the conductor podium with Noah Rogoff, UNK lecturer and cello/double bass instructor, and Dr. David Bauer, UNK choirs director.
“The styles are different, but each achieves the director’s intent to do full justice to the composer’s musical purpose to make the emotional content of the music come alive, or as Wagner so aptly described the process–create ‘fire’ in the musical performance,” Dr. Crocker said.
