UNK- The “Merry Tuba Christmas, “ a low brass concert featuring 65-75 euphonium and tuba players of all ages from throughout the region, will be held in the University of Nebraska at Kearney Fine Arts Recital Hall on Saturday, Dec. 6.
The program will begin at noon, and is free and open to the public. Complimentary cookies, hot chocolate and coffee will be served. The 45-minute program will include a sing-a-long.
“It’s a good time for family to get together and kick-off the holiday season,” Dr. Davis said.
Registration for performers begins at 10 a.m. outside the Fine Arts Recital Hall in the UNK Fine Arts Building. There is a $5 registration fee. The schedule of events includes a guest master class and group warm-up at 10:30 lead by Dr. Forbes. Rehearsal will begin at 11 a.m. in the Recital Hall. Carol books will also be available for purchase during the event.
“Merry Tuba Christmas” was first held in Nebraska 16 years ago under the direction of Bill Winkle at Chadron State College and Dr. Gary Davis, UNK professor of music. This year, “Merry Tuba Christmas” is being coordinated jointly by Dr. Davis and Dr. Mike Forbes, UNK low brass instructor. The original program began in Chicago and New York and quickly gained nationwide popularity.
