The Jazz Rock Ensemble at the University of Nebraska at Kearney will showcase the sounds of the big bands, jazz and swing in a concert on Saturday, Dec. 6.
The 7:30 p.m. performance in the UNK Fine Arts Recital Hall is free and open to the public.
The program will feature jazz selections of various styles, including Latin, rock, jazz rock fusion, ballad, contemporary and funk from popular artists such as Woody Herman, Maynard Ferguson, Benny Goodman and Miles Davis.
Throughout the performance, there will be a number of solos on piano, guitar, alto and tenor saxophone, trumpet, trombone and drum. Dr. Jim Payne, Jazz Rock Ensemble director, will also perform a fast swing-style trumpet solo accompanied by the band.
