The University of Nebraska at Kearney Women’s Center and United Campus Ministries are sponsoring relationship screenings today in the Nebraskan Student Union Atrium.

Titled “Head into Summer with Healthy Relationships: Healthy Relationship Screening Event,” the screenings are taking place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Free and open to all UNK students, the event also features drawings to win an iPod Shuffle and other prizes.

Women’s Center graduate assistant Abby Kovanda said the screenings identify areas in students’ relationships that may be problematic. She said common relationship concerns include communication and personal boundaries issues.

Kovanda said participants first fill out a paper and pencil survey. Afterwards, members of UNK Counseling Care, Women’s Center staff and representatives of United Campus Ministries will help participates interpret their results.

All screenings are confidential, and Kovanda said the participants can take the screenings home with them to discuss with their friends and partners.

Kovanda said the event, which coincides with Sexual Assault Awareness Month, was established to educate students about healthy relationships. She said the event coincides with Sexual Assault Awareness Month, because identifying healthy relationships is closely related to sexual assault and dating violence prevention.
