Newly-elected Third District Rep. Adrian Smith recently announced his office’s staffing list, which includes three alumni from the University of Nebraska at Kearney.
Smith’s Washington, D.C., staff will include Beth Bremer of Imperial and James Dukesherer of Kearney. In addition, Alex Straatmann of Kearney will be working in Smith’s Grand Island office. All three members of Smith’s staff graduated from UNK with degrees in political science.
Bremer graduated from UNK in 2003 and served as a legislative assistant to former Third District Rep. Tom Osborne. She will also be serving Smith’s office as a legislative assistant.
The political director for Smith’s campaign, James Dukesherer, will join Smith’s office as a legislative correspondent. His duties will include constituent communications, as well as helping Smith’s legislative assistants.
Straatmann, a 2000 UNK graduate, will be working as a constituent services representative in Smith’s Grand Island office.
Dr. Peter Longo, professor and chair of the UNK Department of Political Science, said Smith’s choice to hire the UNK graduates was a good decision.
“All three of the alumni were excellent students,” Dr. Longo said. “And equally important was that each of them imbued a sense of caring and kindness.”
“They will serve the Third District in an exemplary fashion,” he said.
