The fourth annual Fun 5K Run/Walk, which is held to raise money for the Student Scholarship Fund, is set for 9 a.m. Saturday, April 22, at the University of Nebraska at Kearney.
According to Jami Schaffnitt, coordinator of Student Activities, participants are encouraged to register early. Entry by April 14 at 5 p.m. is free for UNK students, and $10 per student after. For non-students, the entry fee is $15 for those who register by 5 p.m. on April 14, and $20 thereafter.
“The Fun 5K Run/Walk is a great opportunity for students to participate in something fun and healthy, while having the opportunity to win some great prizes as well,” Schaffnitt said.
All participants receive a free t-shirt the morning of the race. Prizes, including merchandise donated by local area businesses, will be awarded. This year, more than $3,000 in cash and merchandise has been donated.
The route goes through the UNK campus, with the starting line located just east of Thomas Hall (Lot #7, near Highway 30) and the finish line on Foster Field.
