2005 UNK Honors Program Freshmen Set Record

Dr. Gary Davis
UNK Symphonic Band director, 308.865.8497

Freshmen in the Honors Program at the University of Nebraska at Kearney this fall have a record high ACT score of 28.21, according to Dr. Gary Davis, Honors Program adviser.

In all, 120 freshmen have been admitted to the Honors Program for the 2005-2006 academic year.

“This year’s freshmen class is very much a mirror of the whole program,” Dr. Davis said. “Of the 120 students, 94 percent are from Nebraska, as is true of the entire program.”

The College of Natural and Social Science accounts for 40 percent of the freshmen Honors students. The College of Fine Arts and Humanities is represented by 26 percent; the College of Business and Technology, 20 percent; and the College of Education, nine percent. Only five percent of the Honors freshmen are undecided in their major.

“They are a pretty focused class,” Dr. Davis said. “They’re coming in knowing what they want to do.”

Honors Program students are guided by an student advisory board. Newly elected officers for the Honors Student Advisory Board (HSAB) include: Jamie Dusin of Phillipsburg, Kan., president; Claire Perry of Gretna, vice president; and  from Lincoln,  Holly Esquivel, treasurer, and Amber Nabity, secretary.
