The University of Nebraska at Kearney’s Centennial Celebration will include a Centennial Fun Run/Walk (5K run and 3K walk) that is open to the Kearney community, as well as to UNK faculty, staff and students on Monday, Sept. 26.
Registration for the event is free and begins at 5 p.m. with the event starting at 5:30 p.m. that day. Tables for registration will be set up at the west corner of the UNK Health & Sports Center. In addition to being part of the university’s celebration, all participants are eligible for random prize drawings.
Participation in the event will not only help UNK to celebrate the centennial, but it will also give runners and walkers the chance to help victims of the Hurricane Katrina catastrophe.
Anita Lorentzen, a lecturer in the Department of English, has partnered with the American Red Cross to help raise money for those affected by the hurricane. Any participant in the event can raise money in the form of pledges, which will be turned in before the run/walk begins. All of the money raised will go to the American Red Cross to support Hurricane Katrina relief efforts.
For more information about the event, or to register, contact Renee’ Steinkruger, coordinator of the UNK Health/Wellness Program.
