Mikala Nielsen of Omaha has been awarded the $500 Tourism Cares for Tomorrow-Nebraska Lois Johnson Scholarship at the University of Nebraska at Kearney for 2005.
Nielsen, a UNK senior who has a 3.3 GPA, said she plans to pursue a career in the travel industry after she graduates in May 2006.
“I enjoy traveling, interior design, scrap booking, volunteering, and spending time with my family and friends,” Nielsen said.
She is a member of the UNK Travel and Tourism Cub and Gamma Phi Beta social sorority.
The Lois Johnson Scholarship, which was first given last year, is awarded to an applicant based on campus involvement and GPA, according to Barbara Amundson, a lecturer in the UNK Department of Travel and Tourism.
