Wells Fargo has been selected to provide enhanced campus card benefits and financial services to students, faculty and staff of the University of Nebraska at Kearney.

The NU Board of Regents at its April 15 meeting approved an agreement with Wells Fargo to provide an enhanced “UNKCard.”  The new UNKCard will be the first Visa Campus Card introduced by Wells Fargo’s Campus Card Program.

Wells Fargo will introduce a new and improved version of the UNKCard with added financial services functions in August.  These will enable students to link official campus cards to their Wells Fargo checking accounts and use them as Wells Fargo Campus Check CardsSM to access their Wells Fargo checking and savings accounts.  Current UNKCards serve as identification and provide access to university facilities and services.

“We’re excited to join UNK to bring an enhanced level of financial services to the UNK community,” said Stuart Bartruff, president for Wells Fargo in Kearney. “The enhanced benefits of the new card and the diverse financial services Wells Fargo provides will serve the students, faculty and staff well and help them succeed financially.”

Wells Fargo will offer cardholders a broad range of free financial products and services  – including free checking, online banking, online bill pay and direct deposit.

“We chose Wells Fargo because of its history in the campus card market.” said Randy Haack, UNK vice chancellor for Business and Finance.  “We look forward to working with Wells Fargo to offer our students, faculty and staff the latest in technology and innovation and the highest quality services that we expect Wells Fargo to provide.”

Wells Fargo will provide on-site account application services for university students, faculty and staff during peak registration and orientation times. Wells Fargo also will offer a wide range of programs especially developed for students – including College Checking, Debit Card, financial education workshops and the Hands On Banking® financial literacy training program available in English and Spanish.

“By establishing relationships with students at the University of Nebraska Kearney, we’re helping them build disciplined money management habits that will serve them well over their lifetimes,” Bartruff said. “We want to be their financial services provider now, when they’re students, and throughout their lives, as their needs for banking, mortgage, investments and insurance – all their financial needs – evolve.”
