The University of Nebraska at Kearney Sigma Phi Epsilon chapter is hosting a Concert in the Courtyard Friday, April 22, to raise money for the YouthAIDS program.

The concert will be held at the Sig Ep courtyard, 1601 University Drive. Tickets for the concert will be on sale April 13- 20 in the Nebraskan Student Union. Tickets will be $5 in advance and $7 at the door on the night of the concert. The doors will open at 5 p.m. Featured bands will be Grasshopper Takeover, Anchondo, Tenth Hour Calling and After the Order. Grasshopper Takeover and Anchondo are both Omaha-based bands; Tenth Hour Calling and After the Order are from Kearney.

“The bands are donating their time to the Concert in the Courtyard,” said Stephen Weeks, Sigma Phi Epsilon member.

“The Sig Eps are covering travel costs and sound equipment for the bands. A friend of Grasshopper Takeover is providing a PA system, and UNK will supply a metal stage for the benefit,” Weeks explained.

The YouthAIDS initiative is part of Population Services International, a non-profit organization that delivers health products, services and information to prevent HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted infections and malaria among low income and high risk populations. The organization also promotes family planning and maternal and child health among these populations.

YouthAIDS is a growing global initiative that generates funding and awareness to help fight the spread of the disease among the world’s youth. Through mass media, theater, music, fashion and athletics, YouthAIDS promotes abstinence, decreased sexual activity and safer sex among 15-24 year olds, according to the organization’s website.
