The University of Nebraska at Kearney Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) team is scheduled to compete at the 2005 Regional Competition in Boston on April 4.
A panel of judges will evaluate their accomplishments for the year based on a multimedia oral presentation as well
as a written annual report. The team also has a chance to participate in a Career Fair and network with other teams during the competition
“It’s a high pressure competition, but it is a great opportunity to network with business leaders and learn from other teams around the nation during the competition,” said Dr. Susan Jensen, faculty adviser and assistant professor of management and marketing. “It’s also a great way for the students to help others learn more about UNK and our campus.”
SIFE is a nonprofit organization that works in partnership with business and higher education to provide students the opportunity to make a difference and develop leadership, teamwork and communication skills through learning, practicing and teaching principles of free enterprise.
Since the UNK SIFE team’s first meeting last October, members have logged more than 1,000 hours addressing various needs in the Kearney community and raising general awareness about the team. Recently, the SIFE team organized “Dollars & Donuts,” a four- part workshop series that featured community professionals sharing their knowledge about credit, investing, taxes and insurance.
“SIFE is a chance for us not only to change the world in small steps by making it a better place with each community project, but also a chance for us to learn new and exciting things while doing so,” Dr. Jensen said.
