The University of Nebraska-Kearney Concerts-on-the-Platte series will feature soprano Dr. Anne Foradori and pianist Dr. Valerie Cisler at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 20, in the UNK Fine Arts Recital Hall.
The concert, which is free and open to the public, will include a medley of German, French and English art songs.
This is the 10th year that Drs. Foradori and Cisler have performed together. The duo’s musical work has taken them from Nebraska to Pennsylvania and San Jose, Costa Rica. Adding to their accomplishments, the two authored a journal article and have presented two poster sessions at national professional conferences.
In addition, they have received grants through UNK and the Nebraska Humanities Council, and are touring artists with the Nebraska Arts Council.
“I think successful musical collaborators have to develop a sixth sense,” said Dr. Foradori. “Not only must they acquire skills as individual artists, they must learn to listen to one another for balance and nuance in musical interpretation.
“The trick, of course, is to make everything look effortless to the audience,” she said. “That can only happen when the collaborators have spent long hours on their music individually and explored the music together. The key is to be open and flexible, and enjoy the process.”
Monday’s program will include pieces by Clara Schumann, Robert Schumann, Franz Schubert, Ludwig van Beethoven, Francis Poulenc, Erik Satie, Deanna Walker and G.F. Handel.
UNK violinist Ting-Lan Chen will join Drs. Foradori and Cisler for a trio on Handel’s work.
