(Lincoln, NE) Governor Mike Johanns said today that University of Nebraska
President L. Dennis Smith made a terrific decision in selecting Speaker of
the Legislature Doug Kristensen to serve as the next Chancellor of the
University of Nebraska at Kearney.
“This is an excellent decision and I applaud Dennis Smith for making it,”
said Gov. Johanns from Chicago’s O’Hare Airport where he was preparing to
leave for trade discussions with European Union leaders in Brussels,
Belgium. “Doug Kristensen is a gentlemen of enormous credentials and
talent. He will serve the UNK campus and all of the University system very
well in this new capacity. I will miss his leadership style and our close
working relationship. Stephanie and I wish him well.”
Details regarding filling the expected vacancy in Legislative District 37
due to Senator Kristensen’s resignation will be announced on Monday.
