The University of Nebraska at Kearney will host the “Get a Job” seminar on Thursday, November 8 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Ockinga auditorium.
Four media professionals will inform UNK students on what they look for in potential employees. Presenters will include Ayers Advertising/Marketing Chairman and CEO Dick Young, Kearney Hub Vice President of Marketing and General Manager Julie Speirs, Good Samaritan Hospital Director of Corporate Communication Greg Kealey and NTV Creative Services Manager Mike Wallace. These professionals will provide insight into what knowledge, experience, skills and attitudes employers seek in students.
The presenters will include tips on resumes, portfolio contents and interview attire and behavior. These individuals will also share their personal opinions, experiences and uncover commonly asked interview questions.
Also included in the seminar will be a presentation by communications students who successfully found and landed internships. Student presenters include Christy Rasmussen of Broken Bow representing D’Arcy Advertising, Kelly Morris from Omaha explaining the Smithsonian Institution, Jennifer Ramsey of Ord representing Empower IT and Erica Wendland of Oshkosh speaking on The Omaha World-Herald.
Admission is free and open to the public. Refreshments and door prizes will be compliments of the Kearney Hub, Good Samaritan Hospital and the Pepsi Cola Corporation. “Get a Job” is sponsored by the UNK Advertising and Public Relations Club.
