SCHOLARSHIP RECEPIENTS

The University of Nebraska at Kearney Department of Philosophy recently announced the 2001-2002 recipients of the O.K. Bouwsma Scholarship. The scholarship was created by a $200,000 gift from an anonymous donor. It is named after O. K. Bouwsma who was a professor of philosophy at the University of Nebraska from 1928 to 1965 and the University of Texas from 1966 to 1978. He was a leading scholar and student of Ludwig Wittgenstein, Soren Kierkegaard and Fyodor Dostoyevsky. He was noted as an outstanding teacher. During his tenure at NU, he received the “Outstanding Nebraskan” faculty award. The scholarships are awarded to the top students who have submitted a philosophical essay to the O. K.
