CONCERT-ON-THE-PLATTE SERIES, FEATURING JAMES PAYNE

UNK– As part of the Concerts-On-The-Platte Series, UNK faculty member James Payne will be performing a trumpet recital on October 2, 2000 at 8 p.m. in the Fine Arts Recital Hall. He will be accompanied by faculty members Rodney Miller, baritone; Ron Crocker, percussion; Jeffrey Schoyen, cello; Anne Foradori,soprano; Sachiho Murasugi, violin; Carol Gangwish, piano; and assisted by the Kearney Jazz Sextet. The program will consist of Baroque, twentieth century, and jazz music.

Payne received his Doctorate in Trumpet Performance at North Texas University. He is currently the Director of the Music Business Program and the Chair of the Graduate Program Committee for Music and Dance. Payne has appeared as a trumpet soloist throughout the Midwest and has performed more than 1000 times in public. He has performed for the International Trumpet Guild, directs the UNK jazz/rock ensemble, and is a member of the UNK faculty jazz quintet.

“James Payne is a fine professor and a very distinguished trumpeter. The Department of Music and Performing Arts feels honored to have him performing,” said Nathan Buckner, Assistant Professor of Music and Performing Arts and Concerts-on-the-Platte organizer.
