THIRTY UNK STUDENTS TO PRESENT RESEARCH PAPERS AT THE NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH

UNK- Thirty University of Nebraska at Kearney students will present research projects at the 13th annual National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR) April 27-29 at the University of Montana-Missoula.

“NCUR is the major conference on undergraduate research in the country,” said Dr. Ken Nikels, dean of Graduate Studies and Research. “It covers virtually all disciplines.”

Nikels also said that the students benefit in two major ways from the NCUR experience.

“The students are exposed to the research process and also preparing a presentation for the public. That’s a good developmental activity for all careers,” he said. “And the participants also get to meet students from other campuses to expand their knowledge of educational disciplines.”

UNK has sent students to NCUR since 1994, and the number of UNK attendees has steadily increased each year. In addition, UNK has had the largest contingent of participants from any Nebraska college or university for the past five years.

In addition, the second annual Student Research Day at UNK will take place from noon to 5 p.m. April 24 in the Nebraskan Student Union Ponderosa Room. A warm-up to the NCUR event, students will present posters outlining research projects to colleagues from regional universities. Those projects are judged and awards are presented in a ceremony following the event.

Students presenting papers at the NCUR conference, along with the title of the paper, faculty adviser and department, are listed alphabetically by hometown.
