Kearney, Neb., April 16, 2013 – Students, staff and faculty at University of Nebraska at Kearney will go “dumpster-diving” at an event on April 18 to raise awareness about and encourage recycling.
Media and participants note: Because of rain in the forecast, the rain site will be used. Central Plant is located one block north of Cushing. The dumpsters will be moved indoors, with access off the southeast doors. This is an industrial site with limited access and the Boiler Plant to the south is operating. The Chiller Plant portion will be used on the north side of the building. Restrooms are available.
The second annual Waste Audit begins at 4:30 p.m. at Central Plant north. Students will don “haz-mat” suits and sort through loads of the university’s trash to identify how much was tossed into waste cans that could have been recycled: paper, cups, glass or anything that could be recycled at Kearney Recycling Center.
Groups participating include RHA, Enactus, UNK Honors Program and UNK Sustainability Committee.
