The University of Nebraska at Kearney will welcome Sgt. Matt Eversmann on Thursday, Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. in the Nebraskan Student Union Great Room, second floor of the Union. Sgt. Eversmann will lecture on his experience in Mogadishu, Somalia in 1993 as part of a U.N. peacekeeping operation.
He and his story have been immortalized in the film Black Hawk Down, as portrayed by Josh Harnett. Sgt. Eversmann has lectured on his experience in Somalia all over the world and currently he is the Operations Sergeant of the United States Army War College.
For his service in Somalia, he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal with Valor device and the Combat Infantryman’s Badge. Sgt. Eversmann wears numerous awards and decorations including the Army Service Ribbon, the National Defense Service Ribbon, six Army Achievement Medals, three Army Commendation Medals, Meritorious Service medal, the Ranger Tab, Master Parachute Wings, Royal Thai Jump Wings, British Jump Wings, and the Expert Infantryman’s Badge.
The public is invited to attend this free event which is sponsored by the UNK Student Activities Council and is funded by UPFF.
