The University of Nebraska at Kearney is offering an EMT-Paramedic Training Class beginning this September in Grand Island.

“The program will meet one or two evenings a week over the course of the academic year, September through May, for two years,” said Dr. Barbara Audley, dean of the UNK Division of Continuing Education. Participants must be a certified EMT-A or EMT-B to take the class.

The program follows the new DOT Paramedic curriculum. Terry Leslie of the Grand Island Fire Department will teach the class, which begins Sept. 9. The class will meet at College Park, 3180 West Highway 34 in Grand Island. Clinical experiences are scheduled at selected hospitals and other medical sites in the region.

“Successful completion of the curriculum will prepare participants to sit for the National Registry examination,” Dr. Audley said.

Cost for the course will be $450 per semester, or $900 for both semesters. Payment may be made using a credit cart.

“Those wishing to pay by credit card will need to call the Division of Continuing Education’s toll free number between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday,” she said. “If the participant’s unit is paying tuition, we will accept a purchase order or company check for the fees.” The toll free number is (800) 865-6388.

Books are available from the Antelope Bookstore, located in the Nebraskan Student Union on the UNK campus. The bookstore will ship the required texts to participants.
