The following is a statement from the University of Nebraska at Kearney on the death of Chinatsu Kunisada, a student from Japan.

Kunisada died Tuesday at her off-campus home in Kearney.

“We extend our sincere condolences to Chinatsu’s family, friends and loved ones. The UNK family shares your grief and is saddened during this time of great loss. Chinatsu was a leader and valued member of our community. She will be missed.”

Chinatsu was a junior majoring in business administration with an emphasis in accounting. She was also involved in the aviation systems management program and member of the dean’s list.

Chinatsu was a member of the student-led dance group Keyaki, involved with the Japanese Association at Kearney and a member of the Sigma Lambda Gamma sorority at UNK.

The cause of death will not be released.

This is a time of great sorrow for the university. As we grieve together, please know there are a variety of services available to students and faculty.
